France has proposed that European nations establish arms stockpiles on their territory, which could be transferred to Ukraine if necessary, in an effort to deter future Russian aggression.

French Armed Forces Minister Sébastien Lecornu outlined the plan in an interview with Franceinfo on Thursday, emphasizing that security guarantees for Ukraine should include multiple layers.

“One aspect is the creation of arms reserves in Europe for Ukraine, which serves as a deterrent should the war reignite,” Lecornu stated. “This is an idea we will put on the table.”

However, he stressed that Ukraine’s own military remains its best security guarantee.

“The key concern in discussions now is ensuring that the Ukrainian army can continue defending itself—not just in the present conflict but also when the weapons fall silent,” he added.
