The suggestion that the United States could “take over” and “control” war-torn Gaza has triggered strong reactions from the Middle East and beyond.

🇩🇪 German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock condemned the idea on Wednesday, stating that Gaza belongs to the Palestinians, and their forced displacement would be unacceptable and a violation of international law.

🔹 “The civilian population of Gaza must not be expelled, and Gaza must not be occupied or permanently repopulated,” Baerbock said in a statement.
🔹 “It is clear that Gaza—just like the West Bank and East Jerusalem—belongs to the Palestinians. These territories form the basis for a future Palestinian state.”

Baerbock Warns of Further Suffering

The German diplomat also warned that any forced solution would lead to “new suffering and renewed hatred.” She emphasized that “no decision should be made over the heads of the Palestinians.”

Trump’s Controversial Plan for Gaza

During a press conference in Washington with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the U.S. plans to take over Gaza.

🔹 Trump argued that Palestinians “cannot live in Gaza now” due to the 15-month war between Israel and Hamas.
🔹 He proposed transforming the Gaza Strip into the “Riviera of the Middle East.”

Trump claimed the decision was difficult but insisted he had received high-level support from unnamed leaders with whom he discussed the idea.

The proposal has sparked global outrage, with critics warning of forced displacement, violations of international law, and long-term instability in the region.
