The German government summoned the Russian ambassador on Thursday regarding the expulsion of two German journalists and accused Moscow of spreading fake news about the treatment of Russian media in Germany.

Russia had announced the day before that it would expel a journalist and a cameraman from the German TV channel ARD as a retaliatory measure following the German expulsion of two journalists from the Russian “Channel One” network. Berlin denied giving any order for the expulsion of Russian journalists.

“The expulsion of the ARD journalists from Russia is unacceptable, and the justification for it is simply wrong and a lie. We condemn this action in the strongest terms, which is why we have summoned the ambassador,” said Annalena Baerbock, Germany’s Foreign Minister.

The German Foreign Minister added that her country has been dealing with a propaganda battle since the beginning of the war. /VOA
