While Serbia officially presents itself as a supporter of Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, a portion of Serbs and many Serbian politicians express strong support for Russia and Vladimir Putin. According to activist Kaltrina Kamberi, this contradictory situation is highlighted by the experiences of two Ukrainian women, whose case she shared in a social media post. She revealed that Tetiana Pototska and Nina Gapyč, while traveling to Dokufest in Kosovo, encountered the phrase “Glory to Russia” written on their car while they were in Serbia.
Kamberi shared this on “X,” where she welcomed the Ukrainian women to Kosovo, who had arrived for the screening of a documentary that depicts their experiences and losses due to the Russian invasion.
Kamberi emphasizes that while the United States and the European Union continue to expand funds and engage in lengthy discussions that benefit Serbia, they inadvertently reinforce the same harmful mentality.
“It is crucial that support is redirected to countries that uphold European values, like Kosovo and Ukraine, while distancing from genocidal states like Russia and Serbia,” she asserts.
