Former Alliance for the Future of Kosovo leader Ramush Haradinaj has called for calm following the guilty verdict against former Kosovo Liberation Army leaders at the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.

Haradinaj described the verdict as “unacceptable” and “unjust”, while urging the defence to continue the legal battle through the appeals process. He said he remained convinced that the decision could be overturned on appeal.

“The decision today is unacceptable, unjust. The KLA fought a just war of liberation. The battle for justice must continue and must be won at the second instance,” Haradinaj said.

He also appealed to Kosovars to remain peaceful and warned against any destruction of property or harm to citizens in response to the verdict.

“We have no other homeland. We have no other place. We help our enemies if we damage Kosovo’s property or harm the lives of our people. If we destroy Kosovo, we help our enemies. We will defeat our enemies united,” he said.

Haradinaj’s remarks came as Kosovo reacted to the verdict against the former KLA leaders, urging citizens to channel their anger through peaceful and democratic means while continuing the legal fight through the courts.

“We will defeat our enemies united.”
