Human skeletal remains suspected of belonging to individuals who went missing during the 1998–1999 Kosovo war have been discovered in North Mitrovica.
According to the Kosovo Police, the remains were uncovered during an exhumation conducted pursuant to a court order. They were subsequently recovered and transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for examination.

On October 27, 2026, the War Missing Persons Investigation Sector, working in coordination with the Institute of Forensic Medicine, carried out an exhumation in accordance with a court order.
During the operation, several human skeletal remains were discovered. The remains were recovered and transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for forensic examination.
