Israel carried out the attack inside Iran, a US official told CNN, in a move that threatens to push the region deeper into conflict. The Israeli military said it had “no comment at this time” when asked by CNN about reports of explosions in Iran.

Israeli missiles hit a site in Iran, ABC News reported late Thursday, citing a US official, while Iran’s Fars news agency, reporting on the blast, said an air defense system in the city of Isfahan had been activated.

Iranian state media is reporting that all facilities in the area are safe, including important nuclear facilities.

Three explosions were heard early Friday near the military base that houses fighter jets in Isfahan province, Iran’s semi-official FARS news agency reported.

Iran’s Fars news agency reported that an explosion could be heard near the airport in the Iranian city of Isfahan, but the cause of the attack was not immediately known.

“The cause of these explosions is not yet known, investigations will continue until the exact details of the incident are determined,” Fars agency announced.

The air defense system in the Iranian city of Isfahan was activated against “an object suspected to be a drone,” a source told the agency, adding that three explosions were heard near a military base northwest of the city.

CNN reported that several flights in Iranian airspace were diverted.

Over the weekend, Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles in response to an alleged Israeli attack on its embassy in Syria. Most of the drones and missiles were shot down before reaching Israeli territory.

On Thursday, Iran told the UN Security Council that Israel must be forced to stop all military attacks on its interests, while the UN Secretary-General warned that the Middle East is at its “greatest peril.” big”.
