Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced on Wednesday that Israeli forces will maintain their presence in newly established “security zones” across Lebanon, Syria, and the Gaza Strip “until further notice.”

According to an official statement released by the Ministry of Defense, the prolonged military presence in these designated sectors is deemed necessary to protect Israeli citizens and border communities from jihadist militant threats.

“We will not withdraw from the security zones,” Katz declared during a military memorial ceremony honoring Israeli soldiers killed during the 2006 Lebanon War.

Multi-Front Regional Posture

The Defense Minister’s declaration solidifies Israel’s hardline operational strategy across three distinct regional fronts:

  • Southern Lebanon: Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have continuously ruled out a military pullback from southern Lebanon, where IDF troops remain locked in active combat with Hezbollah fighters. The administration maintains that any eventual withdrawal is strictly contingent upon the complete disarmament of Hezbollah.
  • Syria: The IDF has intensified its targeted airstrikes and repeated ground incursions into Syrian territory to secure its northern border perimeter following the historic collapse of former dictator Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
  • Gaza Strip: Israeli forces currently retain direct administrative and operational control over approximately 70 percent of the Gaza territory, with no immediate timeline for a drawdown.

A Direct Warning to Tehran

During his address, Katz also issued a stern, direct warning to Iran, emphasizing that any retaliatory state-sponsored strikes targeting Israel in response to the ongoing military campaigns in southern Lebanon would be met with “the full force” of Israel’s defensive and offensive military capabilities.
