Jean-François Huchet has been appointed as France’s next ambassador to Kosovo and is expected to take charge of the French diplomatic mission in Prishtina at the beginning of September.
Huchet has served as president of France’s National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations (Inalco). He is an economist, university professor and specialist in Asian economies.
On January 30, 2025, Huchet was also elected vice president of France Universités, an organization representing universities and higher-education institutions across France.
Huchet will succeed Olivier Guérot, who has served as France’s ambassador to Kosovo since 2022.
During his tenure, Guérot was active in public discussions on Kosovo’s political developments, the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue and relations between Kosovo and France. He also addressed bilateral cooperation in areas including culture, the arts and the economy.
In one of his interviews with Telegrafi, Guérot discussed France’s positions on political and economic developments in Kosovo, as well as broader issues affecting relations between the two countries.
In one of his latest public statements, delivered during celebrations marking France’s National Day, Guérot called on Kosovo’s political leaders to find a compromise and resolve the country’s institutional deadlock themselves.
He stressed that France and other countries friendly to Kosovo need functioning institutions and reliable partners with whom they can work to support Kosovo on its path toward European integration.
“I call on them to find their own path toward compromise and their own way out of the deadlock, a situation with which no citizen is satisfied,” Guérot said.
Guérot has described France as a “committed, determined, reliable and supportive” partner of Kosovo.
Huchet’s arrival in September comes as France continues to play an important role in Kosovo’s European integration efforts, the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue and broader cooperation between Prishtina and Paris.
