Chairman of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, Keith Self, used his time during a hearing with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to advocate for Kosovo’s membership in NATO and underscore the importance of continued U.S. engagement in the Western Balkans.
Referring to his recent visit to Kosovo, the Preševo Valley, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Self described the region as “extremely fragile” and emphasized that Kosovo’s integration into Euro-Atlantic institutions remains essential for the region’s long-term stability.
During the discussion, the congressman also welcomed the recent appointments of U.S. ambassadors to several Western Balkan countries, stressing that it is important for the U.S. administration to appoint an ambassador to Kosovo as soon as possible.
He said he looks forward to the administration’s support in filling this important diplomatic position.
For his part, Secretary Rubio reaffirmed that the United States remains engaged in the Western Balkans and committed to preventing conflict and instability in the region.
The organization Albanians for America praised Self’s continued support for strengthening relations between the United States and Kosovo, as well as his support for the Albanian-American community.
According to the organization, Keith Self continues to be one of the strongest voices in the U.S. Congress in support of Kosovo, peace, stability, and the country’s Euro-Atlantic integration.
