Kosovo’s acting Foreign Minister Glauk Konjufca has said that overcoming the country’s political deadlock requires compromise between political parties rather than individual party interests.
Speaking after meeting France’s Minister Delegate for Europe Benjamin Haddad in Pristina, Konjufca said that acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti has held a series of meetings with leaders of political parties in an effort to find a solution.
According to Konjufca, the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has not changed its position regarding the election of a new president, while the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) have presented proposals that could contribute to resolving the crisis.
“Regarding the Democratic Party of Kosovo, there has not been much room for discussion because they remain in the same position, believing that the president should come from the PDK,” Konjufca said.
He added that the LDK has expressed readiness to cooperate on selecting a president who would represent all citizens and serve as a common point of agreement between political parties.
“I also welcome the position of the Alliance, which, compared with December last year when it rejected any participation in the session and believed that the quorum should only be boycotted, is now expressing ideas that, in my view, contribute to finding a solution to the crisis we are facing,” Konjufca said.
He emphasized that any proposal aimed at avoiding new elections and reaching an institutional agreement is welcome.
Konjufca warned that repeated elections have exhausted citizens and negatively affected Kosovo’s international representation, as some countries are waiting for the establishment of functioning institutions before advancing projects and cooperation with Pristina.
“The country needs a common political solution. Compromise is the only way to overcome the current crisis,” Konjufca said.
