European Union Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, has called for the swift formation of Kosovo’s institutions to allow for the implementation of European reforms and to benefit from the financial resources provided by the European Growth Plan.
“It is in Kosovo’s interest to quickly form its institutions so that it can move forward with urgent European reforms. Among these, the signing and ratification of agreements related to the Growth Plan should be prioritized by the new government and parliament. This would allow for the release of funds from this instrument, provided that all other criteria are met,” said Kos.
A debate on Kosovo took place on Tuesday evening, ahead of the vote on a Resolution which will, among other things, call for the dialogue with Serbia to conclude with mutual recognition.
The Resolution will also urge the five EU member states that have not yet recognized Kosovo’s independence to do so. It will also welcome Kosovo’s application for EU candidate status, and express support for Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe and NATO’s Partnership for Peace.
The author of the resolution, European Parliament Rapporteur for Kosovo, Riho Terras, emphasized that the EU sanctions against Kosovo should be lifted immediately, calling them unjust and unnecessary.
