Kosovo and Iowa Move to Expand Institutional and Local Cooperation

During an official visit to the State of Iowa, Deputy Minister Kreshnik Ahmeti held a series of meetings with state leaders and local officials, focusing on deepening the partnership between Kosovo and Iowa.

In a meeting with Senate President Amy Sinclair, the long-standing and stable partnership between the two sides was reaffirmed. Discussions highlighted strategic cooperation in security and the need to expand economic, academic, and information technology ties.

Deputy Minister Ahmeti also met with Iowa Deputy Secretary of State Christy Johnson, discussing the advancement of institutional cooperation and strengthening concrete coordination mechanisms between both countries’ institutions. The talks emphasized public administration exchanges, energy sector collaboration, and increased partnerships between higher education institutions.

At the local level, a meeting with Johnston Mayor Paula Dierenfeld addressed community partnerships. It was noted that nine Kosovo municipalities are currently twinned with municipalities in Iowa, reflecting strong citizen-to-citizen ties. Both sides expressed willingness to expand cooperation through joint development projects and professional exchanges.

Additionally, Deputy Minister Ahmeti met with representatives of the Albanian diaspora in Iowa, highlighting their role as a bridge between the two countries and their ongoing contributions to strengthening economic, academic, and cultural relations while supporting Kosovo’s development.
