Kosovo’s Hydrometeorological Institute (IHMK) has issued an orange weather warning for Wednesday, forecasting severe thunderstorms across the entire country.
According to the institute, strong convective activity is expected throughout the day, with some areas likely to experience heavy rainfall, hail and powerful wind gusts associated with severe storms.
IHMK warned that the weather conditions pose a high risk of lightning strikes, which could endanger people and animals, while also causing damage to the electricity network, power outages and disruptions to telecommunications services.
The institute also cautioned that intense rainfall could trigger localized flash floods, while hail and strong winds may damage buildings, vehicles, infrastructure and agricultural crops. Additionally, lightning strikes could increase the risk of wildfires.
Authorities have urged residents to avoid staying outdoors during thunderstorms, refrain from taking shelter under isolated trees, near power poles or metal structures, and protect vehicles and property from hail and strong winds.
Drivers have been advised to exercise extra caution due to reduced visibility and slippery road conditions, while citizens are encouraged to follow updates and instructions issued by the relevant authorities until weather conditions improve.
The orange weather alert remains in effect from 00:00 until 23:59 on July 22. IHMK said it will continue monitoring the weather situation and issue further updates if necessary.
