The Kosovo Police has issued an official clarification regarding the handling of war crimes cases, stating that the Directorate for the Investigation of War Crimes is the sole competent body within the institution responsible for receiving, verifying, investigating, and processing all information, criminal reports, and cases related to war crimes committed during the 1998–1999 Kosovo war.
According to the police, the Directorate is exclusively mandated to conduct criminal investigations into alleged war crimes and carries out its responsibilities in close coordination with the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo, specifically its War Crimes Department.
The statement reaffirms the institutional framework for investigating war crimes and underscores the Directorate’s central role in handling such cases in cooperation with the country’s specialized prosecutorial authorities.
