The Kosovo Security Force (FSK) carried out a major explosive ordnance removal operation on Thursday in the village of Shtitaricë, near Vushtrri, successfully removing 91 artillery shells containing approximately 819 kilograms of explosive material.

The operation was conducted following the discovery of the unexploded ordnance in an area where railway-related works are currently ongoing.

According to a statement issued by the village council of Shtitaricë, residents have been urged to exercise increased caution in the area, as there remains a possibility that additional unexploded shells or other dangerous remnants of war may still be present in the terrain.

Local authorities particularly appealed to parents to ensure that children do not enter or play near the affected zone while inspections and safety measures continue.

Citizens were also reminded that if they encounter any suspicious object, they should avoid touching or approaching it and immediately notify the Kosovo Police.

The village council expressed gratitude to members of the Kosovo Security Force for their swift and professional response.

A special acknowledgment was given to Major Drilon Hasani of the FSK, who reportedly informed local authorities about the findings and coordinated the necessary measures for their safe removal.

“Special thanks go to Major Drilon Hasani, who informed us in a timely manner about the discoveries and undertook the necessary actions for their treatment. We appreciate his professionalism, cooperation, and commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens,” the statement said.

The operation highlights the continued presence of unexploded ordnance in parts of Kosovo decades after the war and underscores the importance of ongoing clearance efforts to protect public safety and support infrastructure development projects.
