Kosovo’s diplomatic presence in Switzerland has been strengthened following the official upgrade of its consular mission in Zurich to the status of a Consulate General.
The announcement was made by Vigan Berisha, who described the development as a historic milestone for both Kosovo’s diplomatic network and the Kosovar diaspora in Switzerland.
According to Berisha, the upgrade comes 16 years after the establishment of Kosovo’s consular mission in Zurich and has received the official approval of the Swiss Confederation.
“This historic moment strengthens the presence of the Republic of Kosovo in one of Europe’s most important centers, placing our mission on an equal footing with other consular missions present in Zurich,” Berisha stated.
He emphasized that the decision reflects the strategic importance of Zurich, the deepening partnership between Kosovo and Switzerland, and, above all, the significant contribution of the Kosovar diaspora.
The newly designated Consulate General of the Republic of Kosovo in Zurich will continue to serve citizens across 13 Swiss cantons, providing consular services and strengthening ties between Kosovo and one of its largest diaspora communities abroad.
The upgrade is widely seen as recognition of the strong political, economic, and social relations between Kosovo and Switzerland, a country that hosts a substantial Kosovar-Albanian community and has long been one of Kosovo’s key international partners.
Officials described the move as an important step in enhancing diplomatic representation, improving services for citizens living abroad, and further strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
“This is a historic moment for our mission and for our diaspora,” Berisha concluded.
