Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti has ruled out the possibility of supporting Fatmir Limaj for the role of Speaker of the Assembly, stating firmly that “we’ve already made our proposal.”

During a press appearance in Babaj i Bokës, Kurti addressed the ongoing parliamentary deadlock, saying:

“The Assembly must be constituted. Kosovo doesn’t currently have a parliament, but it does have a government, it has stability — and as you can see today, it has an army.”

Kurti’s statement effectively ends hopes for Fatmir Limaj, leader of NISMA Socialdemokrate, who had expressed readiness to take on the role of Speaker in order to help resolve the institutional crisis.

Earlier, Limaj reiterated his condition: he is willing to support the formation of a functioning government if he is granted the position of Speaker.

“We remain committed to contributing to a political agreement that unlocks the situation and ensures stability,” said Limaj following a meeting with the Kosovo Democratic Institute (KDI) and civil society representatives.

Limaj warned that any move toward snap elections due to institutional deadlock would be harmful to the country, emphasizing that:

“Democracy does not mean institutional breakdown, but rather political solutions through agreement.”

The current deadlock has paralyzed the Assembly of Kosovo, sparking concern among civil society and political observers. With Kurti holding firm on his stance and Limaj standing by his condition, the prospects for a quick resolution remain uncertain.
