The Acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, in his meeting with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, reiterated the need for the European Commission to promptly deliver the membership questionnaire and to grant Kosovo the status of candidate country for accession to the European Union.

According to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office, Kurti expressed his gratitude for von der Leyen’s continued engagement and support for Kosovo’s European path.

“During the meeting, discussions focused on deepening relations between Kosovo and the EU, our reforms and progress in the rule of law and security, democratic advancement, and economic growth. The Prime Minister reiterated the need for the European Commission to deliver, as soon as possible, the membership questionnaire and grant Kosovo the status of candidate country,” the statement reads.

Kurti also spoke about the local elections held last Sunday, describing them as free, democratic, and in line with the highest European standards.

“He emphasized the importance of a regular transition of power in municipalities where there will be a change in governance, in full respect of the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as the government’s commitment to protect democratic processes from any external interference,” the statement continues.

To strengthen economic cooperation with the EU within the framework of the ‘Single Market Highway’ initiative, the acting Prime Minister is said to have delivered three official letters to President von der Leyen, expressing Kosovo’s interest in launching strategic dialogue in three key sectorsagriculture, information and communication technology (ICT), and the defense industry.

These are sectors, the statement notes, in which Kosovo sees a comparative advantage and high development potential.
