French President Emmanuel Macron has strongly condemned the use of violence by Iranian authorities against protesters, calling the crackdown unacceptable amid escalating unrest across the country.
“I condemn the state violence that indiscriminately targets Iranian women and men, who are courageously demanding respect for their rights,” Macron wrote on X. He emphasized that respect for fundamental freedoms is a universal demand, adding that France stands with those who defend these freedoms.
Strong criticism has also come from the European Union. The President of the European Commission stated that the EU is prepared to impose additional sanctions on Iran in response to the authorities’ handling of the protests.
European officials have repeatedly warned that continued repression, arbitrary arrests, and the use of lethal force against peaceful demonstrators will carry consequences, underlining that human rights violations cannot go unanswered.
The statements reflect growing international pressure on Tehran, as protests continue and reports of casualties and widespread arrests mount.
