European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will visit Kosovo on Thursday as part of her Western Balkans tour, with a meeting scheduled with Acting President Albulena Haxhiu at the Presidency in Prishtina.
According to the announced schedule, the meeting between von der Leyen and Haxhiu is expected to begin at 12:30 p.m.
The visit is part of von der Leyen’s sixth annual tour of the Western Balkans, which runs from September 30 to October 2 and also includes Albania, Montenegro and North Macedonia.
In Kosovo, von der Leyen is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Albin Kurti. The European Commission said her discussions across the region will focus on the next steps in the partners’ EU accession paths and the ongoing process of gradual integration, supported by the EU’s €6 billion Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.
During her visit, von der Leyen is also expected to visit EU-funded projects, including the new premises of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences in Prishtina.
The European Commission has described the tour as an opportunity to reaffirm EU support for the Western Balkans’ European perspective and discuss progress toward closer integration with the bloc.
