Students currently leading blockades and five national trade unions have announced large-scale protests for May 1st, to be held in front of the Serbian government headquarters in Belgrade.
“On May 1st, we mark six months since the fall of the tent in Novi Sad. From this point forward, our struggle enters a new phase. We are no longer just organizing blockades. This is a step toward radicalization, allowing new forms of pressure,” the statement reads.
According to the organizers, the Strike Law and the Labor Law are considered the foundation of an exploitative system.
Protest for Workers’ Rights
“They protect the government, not the workers. These laws must be changed — a massive work stoppage is necessary. We are fighting for the right to live without fear. For workers, for students, for all of us. See you on May 1st at 12:00 PM,” students announced.
The protest is expected to escalate tensions as demands for fair labor laws and greater protection of workers’ rights grow louder.
