Dmitry Medvedev, Russia’s Deputy Chairman of the Security Council, has launched a blistering verbal attack on U.S. President Joe Biden, labeling him as a “zombie” and accusing him of being “insane” and “paranoid.” Medvedev’s comments were made in response to growing concerns over the potential transfer of nuclear weapons to Ukraine, a move that could further escalate tensions between Russia and the West.
In a post on his Telegram channel, Medvedev mocked the idea of nuclear weapons being sent to Kyiv, stating that it was “absurd” and suggested that those promoting such a plan were suffering from paranoia. “American politicians and journalists are seriously discussing the consequences of transferring nuclear weapons to Kyiv. It seems that my sad joke about Biden, the madman and fool who decided to leave life gracefully, taking a significant part of humanity with him, is turning into a frightening reality,” Medvedev wrote.
Medvedev’s Criticism of Biden
Medvedev didn’t hold back in his criticism of President Biden, referring to him as “The Walking Dead,” a term often used to describe a state of being lifeless or disconnected. “The very idea of transferring nuclear weapons to a country at war with the world’s most powerful nuclear nation? It’s so absurd that it raises doubts about Joe Biden’s mental health and that of those who advocate for such a move,” Medvedev continued.
Nuclear Threats and Escalating Tensions
Medvedev’s comments also referred to the broader consequences of transferring nuclear weapons to Ukraine. He warned that such actions could be interpreted as an act of aggression against Russia, in violation of international agreements on nuclear deterrence. “The consequences are clear,” he warned, referencing Russia’s Basic Principles of State Policy on nuclear deterrence.
The Russian official also used the occasion to remind the U.S. of its history with nuclear weapons, especially its use of atomic bombs on Japan during World War II. “Only one country in the history of humanity has used nuclear weapons—the United States. So, let’s not pretend to be ‘smart’ when talking about nuclear threats from Russia. Let them remember their own history and apologize to the Japanese for actions that they have never undone,” Medvedev said during an interview with Al Arabiya.
Hypersonic Missile “Oreshnik” and Escalating Conflict
Medvedev also touched on Russia’s hypersonic missile, “Oreshnik,” which was previously mentioned as a countermeasure to avoid an international conflict. He warned that the continued use of long-range missiles by Ukraine, followed by Russia’s military response, could push the conflict to new, dangerous levels. “We informed the Americans that we would use the Oreshnik missile, in accordance with agreements to prevent a broader international conflict,” Medvedev stated.
As Russia and the U.S. continue their war of words, the international community watches closely as the rhetoric between the two nuclear powers intensifies. The potential deployment of nuclear weapons in Ukraine marks an unprecedented moment in the ongoing crisis, raising fears of a catastrophic escalation.
