Serbian professor Dejan Mirović has issued a stinging critique of the Serbian government and the Srpska Lista (Serbian List), alleging a wave of political purges within Serbian-run health and educational institutions in Kosovo.

In a statement circulated on May 15, 2026, Mirović claims that more than 30 Serbian professionals have been dismissed from their jobs due to their refusal to participate in pro-government rallies and for expressing political views that differ from the official Belgrade line.

Allegations of Mass Dismissals

According to Mirović, the dismissals are being framed as reactions to “nationalist social media activity” or views deemed “contrary to the interests of the Serbian population.” However, Mirović argues the true reason is a refusal to be used as political tools by President Aleksandar Vučić.

  • Targeted Sectors: Education and Healthcare institutions operating under Serbian structures in Kosovo.
  • The “Vidovdan” Rally: Many employees were reportedly fired for refusing to attend an upcoming political rally for the Vidovdan holiday or for declining to participate in counter-protests against striking students in central Serbia.

A History of Pressure: 2013 to Present

Mirović provided a grim historical timeline, linking current events to the formation of Srpska Lista (which he calls “Vučić’s List”) in 2013. He alleges that the party was established to suppress Serbian opposition to the Brussels Agreement.

Reported Incidents of Violence and Intimidation:

Event / PersonDescription of Incident
Oliver IvanovićProminent opposition leader assassinated in 2018.
Dimitrije JanićijevićOpposition politician assassinated in 2014.
Property DamageOver 80 vehicles burned in North Kosovo; attacks on properties of Ristić and Jakšić.
Media AttacksFirearm attacks against the newsroom of the portal KoSSev.
Academic PressureStoning of Rector Srećko Milačić and threats against students supporting protests in Serbia.
Banjska AttackMirović describes the 2023 Banjska incident as a consequence of Serbs being “pushed onto barricades.”

Support for Student Protests

Professor Mirović is one of the few academics living in North Mitrovica who has openly supported the student blockades currently taking place across Serbia. He claims that honest Serbian workers are being sacrificed by the regime to cover up political failures.

“Their only ‘guilt’ is that they do not want to participate in another anti-Serbian lie and deception of the traitor Vučić and his dark list,” Mirović stated via a Telegram report.

Institutional Consequences

The professor warns that the practice of conditioning employment on political loyalty is hollowing out essential services in Kosovo. Professionals in health and education are reportedly facing a choice between political obedience or unemployment, a dynamic that Mirović believes further destabilizes the Serbian community in the region.

The Serbian government and Srpska Lista have not yet issued a formal rebuttal to these specific allegations of mass dismissals.
