Israel was not aware in advance of how far President Donald Trump’s proposal for Gaza could go, and the Israeli cabinet clearly found itself unprepared. This was stated by a senior advisor to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in an interview with the Times of Israel when asked to comment on the American president’s statements following his meeting with the Israeli prime minister.

“We knew the idea, but what surprised us was the scope of this proposal,” said the official.

Meanwhile, a political source in Israel told Reuters today that Netanyahu’s visit to the White House was “extremely successful and exceeded all our expectations and dreams.”

The relationship between Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump has never been better or closer, the source added, noting that Trump has found “innovative solutions” to the problems that have plagued the State of Israel since its founding.

Last night, Donald Trump proposed during his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu at the White House that the Palestinian population of Gaza should be relocated and accommodated in six neighboring Arab states. Specifically, Trump stated that Egypt and Jordan should house Gaza’s residents. He also mentioned that the U.S. military would rebuild the Gaza Strip with the goal of turning it into a tourist destination.
