More than 50 people were killed in an artillery strike on a market in Omdurman, near Sudan’s capital Khartoum, in an attack attributed to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group fighting against the Sudanese army.

Devastation in the Market

Medical staff at Al-Naor Hospital reported that casualties continue to arrive, with many wounded in critical condition. A survivor described rockets raining down on the market, causing massive civilian casualties.

Eyewitnesses told AFP that projectiles and drones were launched from the west, where RSF forces are stationed. Reports indicate that the attack targeted multiple streets simultaneously.

Sudan’s Ongoing Conflict

Since April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in a brutal war between the RSF and the Sudanese army, led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan. The conflict has killed tens of thousands and displaced over 12 million people.

In January, Sudan’s army launched an offensive in Khartoum, reclaiming key bases, including the General Command Headquarters, previously held by the RSF. However, RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo declared yesterday:
“We expelled them from Khartoum once, and we will do it again.”

Once a thriving capital, Khartoum now lies in ruins, with entire neighborhoods reduced to rubble.
