At least 17 people were injured after a vehicle drove into a crowd of fans celebrating the Mexican national team’s success at the World Cup.
The incident occurred in the tourist city of Cabo San Lucas, where hundreds of supporters had gathered in the streets to celebrate Mexico’s 3–0 victory over the Czech Republic and qualification for the next stage of the tournament.
According to local authorities, the incident happened when a vehicle that had become trapped in the crowd suddenly accelerated and struck people gathered on the roadway. Videos shared on social media show chaotic scenes as fans attempted to move out of the way while the car sped through the crowd.
The injured were immediately transported to local hospitals for medical treatment. Initial reports indicate that most victims are in stable condition, although several people suffered more serious injuries.
Police arrested the driver shortly after the incident and launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the event. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the crash was intentional or the result of the driver losing control of the vehicle.
The Secretary General of the Municipality of Los Cabos, Alberto Rentería Santana, stated that the priority remains caring for the injured and supporting affected families while investigators work to establish exactly what happened.
The incident has shocked the local community and cast a shadow over celebrations following Mexico’s World Cup success on the international stage.
