Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has pushed back against U.S. President Donald Trump’s claim that the European Union was established to undermine America’s economic power.
In a post on X, Tusk dismissed Trump’s assertion, emphasizing that the EU was created to foster peace, mutual respect, free and fair trade, and strengthen transatlantic friendship.
“The European Union was not formed to get rid of anyone. Quite the opposite. It was established to maintain peace, build respect among our peoples, create free and fair trade, and strengthen our transatlantic friendship. It’s that simple,” Tusk stated.
Trump announced on Wednesday that the U.S. would impose tariffs on all products from EU countries, arguing that the bloc was designed to weaken the U.S. economy. When asked about potential retaliatory tariffs from the EU, Trump remained unfazed, saying he was not concerned.
