The Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) has announced the shutdown of Unit B2 at the “Kosova B” power plant due to significant water leaks, an issue that had occurred previously as well.
Economy Minister Artane Rizvanolli visited KEK today to inspect the ongoing maintenance work at Block B1 of the plant. Rizvanolli confirmed that the investments this year will increase the capacity of Unit B2 by approximately 15 MW.
She explained that the ongoing repairs in Block B1 are proceeding according to plan and precede the scheduled modernization of the turbine in Block B2, which will begin at the end of April. Upon the full completion of the rehabilitation work, the total capacity of the Kosova B plant will increase by 80 MW, with an annual production boost of 600 GWh and an extended operational lifespan of 20 years.
Regarding the shutdown of Unit B2, Rizvanolli noted that the unit had been taken offline following a leak. However, the repair teams are working intensively, and the unit is expected to be back in operation by 08:00 AM tomorrow.
“I thanked the workers and management for their tireless efforts as they simultaneously work on the maintenance of Block B1 and the leak repairs in Block B2,” Rizvanolli added.
