Secretary of State Marco Rubio, currently attending the NATO Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Brussels, reassured European allies about the United States’ commitment to the alliance. In a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Rubio emphasized that the U.S. remains as active in NATO as ever.

Rubio affirmed that the U.S. is as active as always in NATO, following recent concerns raised by European allies. The U.S. Secretary of State thanked Rutte for expressing condolences over the deaths of four American soldiers during NATO training in Lithuania. Rubio reinforced that President Trump has consistently supported NATO and the U.S. will remain in the alliance. While acknowledging the need for NATO to be “stronger” and “more stable,” Rubio stressed that the alliance must also focus on investing in national security and fulfilling its obligations. He clarified that Trump is not against NATO but is pushing for reforms to ensure the alliance has the capabilities necessary for its members’ security commitments.
