The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that it will cut more than 90% of the foreign aid contracts from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and reduce global U.S. assistance by $60 billion.

The administration also released the results of a review of every USAID program, which was ordered by Trump and the Department of State, as reported by AP.

The decision was reportedly driven by a court order requiring officials to lift the blockade on foreign aid funding by the end of the day Wednesday.

Trump administration officials, after repeated warnings from a federal judge in this case, also stated on Wednesday that they had resumed payment of USAID invoices after months of suspended payments, freeing up several trillion dollars in outstanding debt for delivery.

This move marks a significant shift in U.S. foreign aid policy and will have far-reaching implications for international assistance programs.
