U.S. President Donald Trump has outlined his main condition for a new meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin: a realistic peace deal to end the war in Ukraine.

“We need to know that we will reach an agreement to end the war in Ukraine. I don’t want to waste time,” Trump said, emphasizing that he will not meet with Putin unless there is certainty of a tangible peace agreement, according to The Guardian.

Trump also noted that there is “a lot of hatred” between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, which he sees as a significant obstacle to the potential meeting.

The statement came during a press conference on board Air Force One, while en route to Asia. The previously planned meeting in Budapest was canceled last week, following which the U.S. imposed additional sanctions on the Russian energy sector.
