Two American congressmen, Republican Keith Self and Democrat Suhas Subramanyam, are expected to arrive in Kosovo on Tuesday as part of a broader visit to the Western Balkans, following stops in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia.

Ahead of their visit to Kosovo, the congressmen held meetings in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where discussions focused on stability in the Western Balkans and continued U.S. support for the Dayton Peace Agreement.

In Kosovo, they are expected to meet with institutional representatives at a time when cooperation with the United States is being emphasized as strategically important by Kosovo officials. Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti recently stated that defense relations between Kosovo and the United States are at a high and stable level.

At the end of April, Keith Self, together with fellow congressmen Ritchie Torres and Mike Lawler, introduced a resolution aimed at advancing Kosovo’s path toward NATO membership.

The bipartisan resolution states, among other things, that “Kosovo’s democratic governance, civilian oversight of security forces, and multiethnic coexistence present a compelling case for NATO membership.”
