Senior trade delegations from the United States and China held what Chinese state media described as “constructive” talks in South Korea on Wednesday, ahead of the highly anticipated summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
According to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV, both sides engaged in “frank, in-depth and constructive exchanges” regarding economic and trade issues of mutual concern, as well as expanding practical cooperation. No further details were provided on the specific topics discussed.
The American delegation was led by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, while the Chinese side was headed by Vice Premier He Lifeng.
The meetings took place in Incheon, where Bessent also participated in discussions with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, according to CNN.
The talks come at a critical moment for U.S.–China relations, as both countries seek to manage ongoing trade tensions ahead of the Trump–Xi meeting expected later this week.
