Dressed in military uniforms bearing the emblem of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK), hundreds of former fighters were greeted with military salutes at the Kosovo–Albania border crossing.
Police officials from both sides of the border were decorated by the veterans, who solemnly crossed into Albania to continue their journey toward Tirana, where a nationwide protest is being held in support of the former UÇK leaders on trial in The Hague.
Alongside them, other veterans rode motorcycles toward the Albanian capital. But they were not alone—thousands of citizens from across Kosovo traveled by bus to join the demonstration, united under one message: “Freedom for the liberators.”
Many others, carrying Albanian and UÇK flags, set out individually to make the pan-Albanian protest louder and more visible. The Presheva Valley also joined this collective call to end the injustices against the Kosovo Liberation Army.
Former KLA leaders Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi, and Rexhep Selimi remain in detention in The Hague since 2020, facing war crimes and crimes against humanity charges by the Special Court for Kosovo.
