Ukraine has once again killed a Serbian national who was fighting alongside Russia.

RKS News has learned that the individual is Marko Matović, who is set to be buried in Batajnica, Serbia, on February 10.

According to information obtained by RKS News, Matović had been fighting against Ukraine for more than two years and had also participated in the battle of Bakhmut, where a horrific massacre of Ukrainian civilians took place.

He had even been decorated by Russia. Matović was killed in January by a Ukrainian drone.

However, he is not the first Serbian fighter killed by Ukraine while fighting alongside Russian forces.

A few weeks ago, Serbian war criminal Bratislav Živković was also killed. Živković had been declared persona non grata by Romania as a Russian spy.

In recent days, Lazar Lazić was seriously wounded in Kursk.

These are just a few of the recent cases, while the total number of Serbian fighters killed and those participating in the conflict is much higher—and not only in Ukraine.

In 2020, Aleksa Đurić, a member of the notorious Wagner Group, was killed in Libya.

Officially, Serbia has provided no information regarding the involvement of its citizens in the war against Ukraine. However, it remains one of the only European countries that has not imposed sanctions on Russia and continues to maintain close relations with Vladimir Putin’s regime.

This further aligns Serbia more with North Korea—which is fighting alongside Russia against Ukraine—rather than with European nations that oppose Russia’s war and its inhumane crimes.

Meanwhile, the Serbian public has risen in protest, with hundreds of thousands demonstrating for months against President Aleksandar Vučić’s regime, denouncing him as a criminal and a violator of fundamental human rights.
