President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, delivered three key messages during her visit to Kosovo, following meetings with President Vjosa Osmani and Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

1. EU Commitment to the Western Balkans

Von der Leyen reaffirmed that the European Union remains committed to a future where “all Western Balkan partners are part of the Union.” She emphasized that Kosovo’s integration into the EU is a priority, highlighting the importance of continued reforms and political stability.

2. Building Strong and Secure Institutions

A core message from the visit was the need for Kosovo to strengthen its institutions and reduce internal tensions. Von der Leyen stressed that only by finalizing necessary institutional steps can Kosovo fully benefit from EU support and programs.

3. Completing Steps to Benefit from the Western Balkans Growth Plan

Von der Leyen highlighted the Western Balkans Growth Plan, a €6 billion financial package for 2024–2027 designed to support gradual integration of regional countries into the EU single market.

Kosovo’s share of this plan is expected to be around €880 million, but the country cannot access these funds until its institutions are fully constituted and operational.

Summary

During her visit, Ursula von der Leyen underlined EU support, institutional reforms, and the importance of the Growth Plan for Kosovo. Her visit underscores the EU’s commitment to helping Kosovo progress on its path toward integration and economic development.
