The newly appointed Chief State Prosecutor of Kosovo, Zejnulla Gashi, will officially take over the new position today from the acting Chief State Prosecutor, Agron Qalaj, the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor announced.
“The handover ceremony will take place at the premises of the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor, Luan Haradinaj Street, Pristina,” the announcement stated.
Acting President of Kosovo Albulena Haxhiu appointed Gashi to the position yesterday through a decree, while also outlining the responsibilities expected from the country’s top prosecutor.
“The fight against organized crime, corruption, the prosecution of war criminals, perpetrators of violence, and crime of any kind must receive a firm response from the prosecution body,” Haxhiu wrote.
Gashi’s appointment comes at a time when Kosovo’s justice institutions face expectations to strengthen the fight against corruption, organized crime, and ensure accountability through an independent prosecution system.
