Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a strong statement accusing Moscow of hypocrisy, saying Russia seeks “permission” from Ukraine to hold its military parade in Red Square while continuing attacks.

“Russia asks for our permission to hold a parade on Red Square for one hour and then continues to kill people,” the Ukrainian president stated.

He described the Russian leadership’s logic as “strange and unacceptable.”

Zelensky also said Ukraine had proposed a ceasefire, but according to him, Russia responded with attacks and threats.

The Ukrainian president further urged leaders of countries planning to attend the May 9 celebrations in Moscow to “think again” about their participation.

May 9 in Russia marks the anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany in World War II and is annually commemorated with a military parade in Red Square in Moscow.
