Kaja Kallas spent much of Sunday in diplomatic calls with regional leaders, as the European Union seeks solutions to the escalating crisis around the Strait of Hormuz.

Kallas spoke with Abbas Araghchi, as well as her counterparts in Turkey, Qatar, and South Korea. Brussels described the discussions as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to identify possible solutions to the crisis.

The talks covered the ongoing conflict, attacks on energy infrastructure, and growing pressure to reopen the Strait of Hormuz—an issue Kallas had already raised with Araghchi earlier in the week.

An EU official told Reuters that “new threats to target critical civilian infrastructure risk affecting millions of people across the Middle East and beyond.”

Meanwhile, Donald Trump has given Iranian authorities a 48-hour deadline to reopen the strategic waterway, further intensifying tensions in the region.
