Serbia’s opposition has reacted after EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos reportedly dismissed proposals linked to President Aleksandar Vučić as misleading in the context of European integration.

According to Marinika Tepić of the Freedom and Justice Party (SSP), the idea of accessing the Schengen Area or the EU single market without full membership was clearly rejected.

She stressed that there can be no participation in Schengen without rule of law, and no access to the single market without functioning democratic institutions — key conditions set by the European Union.

Tepić criticized Vučić for allegedly seeking economic benefits from the EU while avoiding reforms related to democracy, free elections, media freedom, judicial independence, and systemic corruption.

She added that Serbia could realistically join the EU by 2030, but only with substantial reforms and a change in governance, warning that “there is no Europe for cartel-like regimes.”
