The campaign of systemic pressure against Kosovo Serbs who refuse to align with Belgrade’s official rhetoric has reached a new level of institutional coercion. Nenad Rašić, leader of the Partija za Slobodu, Pravdu i Opstanak (Party for Freedom, Justice, and Survival), has released a damning video exposing how Serbian “parallel” institutions are being used as tools for political retaliation.
This latest revelation follows earlier warnings from Professor Dejan Mirović, suggesting a widespread purge of dissenters within the healthcare and education sectors.
The Donja Gušterica Case: Fired for “After-Hours” Dissent
In a specific case that has sparked outrage, Rašić highlighted an incident in Donja Gušterica, where the director of the local ambulance service, Saša Mladenović, dismissed an employee for holding political views contrary to those of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and the Srpska Lista.
The justification for the firing, as reported by Rašić, unveils a chilling standard of political loyalty. According to the director:
- Total Compliance: Employees are expected to adhere to the political stances of Vučić’s party even outside of working hours.
- Ideological Policing: Private life and personal beliefs are no longer shielded from professional consequences, effectively turning these public services into party-controlled units.
Critique: Vučić’s Siege of the Kosovo Serb Mind
The strategy employed by Belgrade is clear: create a climate of total dependency. By controlling the “parallel” institutions that provide the only source of income for thousands of Kosovo Serbs, the Vučić regime has effectively weaponized the breadline.
This isn’t merely political disagreement; it is institutional blackmail. By demanding that a nurse or a teacher behave according to party lines in their private time, the regime is attempting to dismantle the very concept of individual liberty within the Serbian community in Kosovo. Those who refuse to be mouthpieces for Belgrade’s propaganda find themselves unemployed, marginalized, and labeled as “traitors.”
Nenad Rašić: A Lifeline Against Coercion
Standing in stark contrast to this intimidation is Nenad Rašić, who has positioned himself as the primary defender of those targeted by the purge. In his Facebook address, Rašić sent a clear message of defiance to the regime and a hand of support to the victims.
Rašić’s Call to Action:
- Legal Protection: He is offering full legal assistance to any Kosovo Serb who has been dismissed or pressured due to their political stances.
- Open Sanctuary: Rašić called on all citizens facing these trials to contact him directly, promising that his party will provide both the legal and moral support necessary to fight these arbitrary dismissals.
- A New Alternative: By challenging the “monopoly of fear” held by Srpska Lista, Rašić is attempting to build a political space where Kosovo Serbs can advocate for their own interests without being dictated to by Belgrade.
The Growing Resistance
The “Donja Gušterica” precedent serves as a warning to the international community that the internal pressure on the Serbian community in Kosovo is reaching a breaking point. While Belgrade frames its actions as “protecting Serbian interests,” the testimonies of fired workers and the evidence presented by Rašić suggest the opposite: the regime is cannibalizing its own people to maintain absolute political control.
As Rašić steps forward to bridge the gap between these vulnerable citizens and the law, the question remains whether the pressure of the Vučić administration will backfire, fueling a homegrown resistance that values professional integrity over party loyalty.
