Russian propaganda is continuing its disinformation campaign by reviving the well-known narrative about the so-called “secret American biolaboratories” in Ukraine, claims that have for years been used by the Kremlin to justify its aggression against Kyiv.

A new wave of accusations was recently published in Russian propagandistic media, where the so-called “military expert” Igor Nikulin claimed the existence of a network of “Pentagon-modernized laboratories,” where according to him experiments with tuberculosis pathogens were being conducted near the Donbas region.

According to his statements, these laboratories were allegedly using methods for the “artificial enhancement” of infectious diseases, claims that have not been supported by any concrete evidence.

The narrative about “American biolaboratories” has been one of the most commonly used conspiracy theories by Russian propaganda since 2014, when Russia began its intervention in Ukraine and later the annexation of Crimea.

However, throughout this entire period, Russian authorities have not presented any verifiable evidence that would confirm the existence of secret biological laboratories or the development of biological weapons on Ukrainian territory.

International experts and Western organizations have continuously emphasized that the institutions which Russian propaganda describes as “military laboratories” are in fact ordinary research and sanitary-epidemiological centers, which operate within the framework of international cooperation for the protection of public health and the monitoring of infectious diseases.

According to observers of information warfare, the Kremlin uses this narrative to create the perception of an external threat against Russia and to portray military aggression against Ukraine as a “preventive action.”

In this way, Russian propaganda aims to legitimize the invasion of Ukraine before the Russian domestic public opinion by promoting conspiracy theories and fear narratives regarding alleged biological activities supported by the United States.

This is not the first time Moscow has promoted similar claims. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Russian officials and state media have continuously published accusations about secret biological programs, which have been rejected by the international community and Western organizations as disinformation and war propaganda.

Security analysts emphasize that such narratives are part of Russia’s hybrid warfare strategy, which combines propaganda, information manipulation, and conspiracy theories in order to influence public opinion and justify the Kremlin’s geopolitical objectives.
