In a major international law enforcement breakthrough, Interpol Tirana, in close coordination with United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities, has arrested five high-profile Albanian fugitives in Dubai.

The arrests were executed under the ongoing international police operation codenamed “The Wanted,” which targets the location, apprehension, and extradition of Albanian citizens fleeing domestic justice.

The operation relied heavily on real-time intelligence sharing between Interpol Tirana and its counterparts in Abu Dhabi, effectively closing a known safe haven for Albanian organized crime figures.

High-Value Targets and Serious Offenses

According to official law enforcement releases, four of the detained individuals were wanted on international arrest warrants issued by Albania’s Special Structure Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK). The fifth individual faces severe cybercrime charges.

The suspects have been identified by their initials and ages:

  • K. Q. (44), Sh. K. (44), I. L. (30), and A. P. (38): All four are suspected of high-level involvement in structured criminal activity within the narcotics trafficking sector.
  • M. C. (34): Wanted under a separate warrant for computer-related fraud and digital financial crimes.

Ongoing Investigations: State authorities noted that the operation is not yet complete. Albanian and UAE police are currently verifying the identity of a sixth Albanian national detained in Dubai, who is strongly suspected of using sophisticated forged documentation to evade border controls.

Shifting Geopolitics of Extradition

For years, Dubai has been widely perceived by Balkan criminal networks as a sanctuary due to the historical complexities of extradition procedures between the UAE and southeastern Europe. However, this operation signals a tightening dragnet and an unprecedented level of bilateral judicial cooperation.

Interpol Tirana is currently finalizing the necessary legal frameworks and extradition procedures alongside the Albanian Ministry of Justice to ensure the swift transfer of all five detainees back to Albania, where they will face trial under SPAK’s jurisdiction.
