Following a high-level government cabinet meeting, Albania’s Minister of Defense, Ermal Nufi, detailed a series of expansive strategic initiatives. The defense blueprint stretches from reviving a trilateral regional defense industry to deploying military observers into active Middle Eastern conflict zones and preparing domestic wildfire responses.

Trilateral Military Co-Production: Building an Export Architecture

In a major regional security development, Minister Nufi announced that Albania is engaged in active, advanced negotiations with Kosovo and Croatia to establish a joint military manufacturing ecosystem.

The initiative aims to transition Albania from a passive defense consumer into an exporter of arms and ammunition. Recent national legislative and financial overhauls have paved the way for private-public defense investments, making this trilateral framework logistically viable.

“We are discussing with Kosovo and Croatia regarding co-production in the military industry,” Nufi stated. “The legal framework we have built gives us real development opportunities. The goal is to meet our own security needs and simultaneously create capacities for export.”

Partnering with Croatia—a NATO member with an established defense industrial base—alongside a “natural and strategic” alliance with Kosovo is expected to create a highly competitive defense production corridor in the Western Balkans.

Assessing Deployment: Albanian Troops Bound for the Gaza Strip

Turning to international commitments, Nufi confirmed that the Albanian Armed Forces (AAF) are actively evaluating a peacekeeping and stabilization deployment to the Gaza Strip.

A specialized Albanian military observer team has already been dispatched to the ground to conduct critical reconnaissance, evaluate active theater dynamics, and map out troop sustainability requirements.

The defense minister clarified that while a final executive decision has not been inked, Albania is moving methodically alongside its Western allies to guarantee the absolute safety and legal backing of its personnel before any boots hit the ground.

Domestic Readiness: Civil Emergencies and Wildfire Mitigation

Closer to home, the Ministry of Defense is shifting the Armed Forces into a high-alert defensive posture to combat seasonal wildfires.

Working in absolute lockstep with the National Civil Protection Agency, regional AAF garrisons and aerial assets are being pre-positioned to assist municipal authorities across Albania during the high-risk summer months. Nufi closed his address by issuing a firm public appeal, urging citizens and rural communities to exercise maximum vigilance to prevent accidental flare-ups and safeguard the nation’s vulnerable forestry and pasture reserves.
