TIRANA – Citizens and activists gathered for the fourth consecutive day in Skanderbeg Square in Tirana to protest against the planned project in Zvërnec. The demonstration lasted around two hours and continued despite heavy rain.
Protesters, who have named their initiative the “Flamingo Revolution,” carried cardboard flamingos and symbolic banners, opposing what they describe as a project that threatens a protected natural area.
During the protest, tensions escalated between demonstrators and police forces. Reports indicate that the police cordon was breached, leading to further clashes. Authorities later used water cannons to disperse the crowd.
Despite the weather conditions and police intervention, part of the group continued the protest, refusing to leave the square and maintaining their opposition to the project.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted again to the protests, sharing two images of investment projects by Qatari investors. He stated that similar development models are expected to be implemented in Zvërnec, defending the planned project.
The protests are expected to continue in the coming days, while the debate between the government and opponents of the project remains ongoing.
