The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium, Maxime Prévot, has called on political leaders in Kosovo to end the current political impasse following the recent parliamentary elections.

In a statement published on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Prévot emphasized that the election results dictate a shared governance approach, noting that “no party can govern alone.”

A Call for Stable Institutions

The Belgian deputy prime minister stressed that the immediate focus for the political spectrum in Prishtina must be the swift consolidation of a stable government.

“Kosova has voted. Now it is up to political leaders to honour that choice by working together and end the current political deadlock,” Prévot wrote. “No party can govern alone. Building a coalition and forming stable institutions quickly should be the priority.”

The comments come amid shifting dynamics following the snap elections, where preliminary results indicate that no single political entity has captured an absolute majority capable of forming a government independently.

Key Strategic Priorities for the New Government

Beyond internal stability, Prévot outlined the critical geopolitical and domestic responsibilities awaiting the next administration. According to the Belgian diplomat, the strategic roadmap for Prishtina remains centered on three pillars:

  • European Integration: Advancing Kosovo’s long-term journey toward European Union membership.
  • Regional Dialogue: Re-engaging constructively in the ongoing Belgrade-Prishtina normalization dialogue.
  • Internal Reforms: Continuing essential judicial, economic, and institutional reforms to align closer with EU standards.

Concluding his statement, Prévot reaffirmed Brussels’ diplomatic backing for the country, stating, “Belgium remains a steadfast supporter of Kosovo’s European perspective.”
