A high-profile international conference dedicated to the work and impact of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers (KSC) kicked off today, June 10, 2026, in the capital city of Prishtina. The event marks the largest gathering of its kind focused on the Hague-based court’s operations.
Among the prominent figures attending the conference are Sir Geoffrey Nice, the former International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) prosecutor who led the case against Slobodan Milošević; Daan Everts, the former head of the OSCE mission in Kosovo during the immediate post-war years; and Robert Bosch, the former Ambassador of the Netherlands to Kosovo.
A Critical Junction Ahead of Verdicts
The conference is being held at a highly sensitive political and judicial moment for the country, as the nation awaits the final judicial outcomes for its former wartime leadership.
- Organizers: The roundtable discussion was jointly organized by the civic initiative “Liria ka Emër” (Freedom Has a Name) and the KIPRED Institute (Kosovar Institute for Policy Research and Development).
- The Context: The gathering takes place as the country eagerly awaits the upcoming verdicts for four former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA): Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi, and Rexhep Selimi.
International Eyewitnesses Return
In addition to legal experts and veteran diplomats, the panels feature several international diplomats and journalists who personally covered the 1998–1999 Kosovo War on the ground.
Their participation aims to provide historical context regarding the KLA’s defensive campaign, juxtaposing the realities of the conflict against the ongoing legal proceedings taking place in The Hague.
