The Balkans have been placed on alert on Monday due to a new wave of scorching heat moving toward Eastern Europe, bringing health warnings, wildfires, and extreme temperatures, AFP reported.
While some parts of Western Europe are experiencing slight relief, temperatures in the Balkans are expected to rise again, with forecasts reaching up to 40°C in some countries.
In Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Albania, authorities have warned of dangerous conditions for public health, particularly for the elderly and people with chronic illnesses.
In Bosnia, firefighters have partially extinguished a fire at a landfill near the city of Mostar, which had been producing thick smoke in the area for days. Meanwhile, emergency teams continue efforts to bring several other fire hotspots under control, which are not currently considered life-threatening.
Kosovo has also been affected by the heatwave. The Meteorological Institute has warned that temperatures today could reach up to 38°C, urging citizens to avoid going out during the hottest hours of the day and to take extra precautions, especially vulnerable groups, AFP reported.
