Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has stated that his country will not make concessions to the United States and will continue to defend its economic and political sovereignty.
His remarks came after Washington announced the introduction of new tariffs on Brazilian goods.
“Brazil will fight for its sovereignty without hesitation,” Lula wrote on the platform X.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the United States will impose 25% tariffs on most goods imported from Brazil.
Meanwhile, Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira accused Washington of issuing ultimatums to Brazil and seeking unrestricted access to the country’s domestic market.
The decision is expected to further increase trade and diplomatic tensions between the two countries.
